Symptom: Slipping - Steering wheel feels like it's slippingWhile turning the wheel or holding it in a turning position, your steering wheel feels like it's slipping back and forth
Power Steering Fluid may be Low - Add fluid as needed.
Power Steering Belt may be Loose or Worn - Tighten or replace.
Power Steering Pump may have gone Bad - Have it check for pressure, and replace the pump as needed.
Power Steering Rack may be Leaking - Inspect for leaks and replace as needed.
Steering Rack Mount may be Broken - Inspect for excessive wear and repair/replace rack mount as needed.
Symptom: Hard to steer
Your steering wheel is hard to turn, most noticeably while moving at a slow speed
Power Steering Fluid may be Low - Add more as needed
Power Steering Belt may be Loose or Worn - Tighten or replace.
Power Steering Pump may have gone Bad due to Wear - Have it check for pressure, replace as needed.
Power Steering Rack may be Leaking - Inspect steering rack for leaks, and replace as needed.
Symptom: Vibrations
Steering wheel vibrates while traveling a constant speed, especially on the highway
Wheels may be Out of Balance - may need to be re-balanced
Tires are Worn too much or are Uneven - Come to True Line Auto Center to have your tires replaced.
Wheel Bolts may be Loose - Check wheel lugs for looseness, tighten as needed
Brake rotor may be warped - inspect brake discs, replace as needed
Symptom: Wandering
Steering is loose and wanders from side to side
Power Steering fluid may be low - check fluid and replenish as needed
Strut bearings may be worn - inspect strut bearings and replace in pairs
Steering rack or tie rods may be worn or broken - inspect steering rack or tie rods, replace as needed
Ball Joints may be worn - inspect and replace as needed.
Steering rack mounts may be broken - inspect and repair or replace. This component can be fixed in some cars, but others may require replaceing the entire steering rack.
Symptom: Loud screeching
Steering has a loud screechning noise when steering at low speeds, for example, parking speeds.
Power steering fluid may be low - add more as needed
Power steering belt may be loose - adjust and tighten as needed
Power steering belt may be worn - replace and adjust power steering belt
